Summer Nature Journalling With Jenny Coats

Join local artist Jenny for a relaxing and hands-on workshop introducing the practice of nature journalling. Set in the tranquil setting of Sheffield Botanical Gardens, this is a rare chance to step back and really notice the natural world. You will also develop your creative skills in painting and drawing and be inspired to develop a new regular creative habit.

‍ ‍Dates & Time:
Monday 8th June 2026
9:30am – 12:30pm

‍ ‍Location:
The Dorothy Fox Education Centre
Sheffield Botanical Gardens (Thompson Road Entrance)
S11 8RB

What to expect:
You will be introduced to the practice of nature journalling through Jenny’s ‘#52WeeksofNature’ project. This is a sketchbook journal in which she records nature that she has noticed on weekly walks. You can see examples of Jenny’s work here: https://www.instagram.com/jenny.coats.created/

We will then explore the gardens allowing ourselves to notice and tune in with nature, plants and animals whilst also collecting photos and possibly small sketches.

Then, returning to the classroom, you’ll receive your own sketchbook to keep and begin to plan out your first journal page. You will learn simple drawing and painting techniques as well as how to use online resources to support you to identify and learn about the subjects you are recording.

What’s included:

  • All materials and tools

  • Your own sketchbook to keep

  • Tea, coffee & biscuits throughout the morning

  • An invitation to begin a regular practice in a supportive group

  • A calm, inspiring space to explore traditional techniques
