The September Open Day at the Inner Temple Gardens on the Thames will include information and displays about Marnock’s work at this historic site.
The Inner Temple Gardens website explains that, after the construction of the Victoria Embankment in 1870, ‘it was the scheme of Robert Marnock, the pioneering landscape designer, which was adopted. Marnock was renowned for his creation of the Botanical Gardens in Sheffield and Regent’s Park, his style economic and naturalistic. He proposed the planting of the two lines of planes, the most pollutant-resistant of trees, which still stand on either side of the Broad Walk (then known as the south terrace).’
This event is part of the Open House Weekend festival. Entry is free and all are welcome. Temple Church and Middle Temple are also opening.
