Extensive replanting of the display beds near the Thompson Road entrance was carried out by the Gardens’ staff in early 2021.

In 2021 Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust funds were used to create four large environmentally friendly composting bays next to the greenhouses by the Dorothy Fox Education Centre.
Refurbishment and painting of all the gates and railings around the site was also completed in early 2021.

The National Heritage Lottery Fund and the Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust (SBGT) funded a project officer for two years to prepare a larger bid to expand the educational capacity and role of the Gardens. The bid was successful and an education officer was appointed for two years to implement the next phase. This was delivered between May 2022 and May 2024.
The Gardens and the Dorothy Fox Education Centre are now utilised for horticultural education for the public across a wide range of ages.

After almost twenty years since Phase Two of the Restoration project, these glasshouses required maintenance. Wooden doors and windows needed replacing. Woodwork and masonry had to be repaired and painted. The £60,000 cost of the project was met by £16,000 from the City Council and a fund-raising campaign led by the SBG Trust. Generous grants were received from the Sheffield Town Trust, the Freshgate Trust Foundation and the J.G. Graves Trust. The work was completed in 2022.

The Sheffield Assay Office, marked its 250th Anniversary in 2023. The Assay Office made a generous donation to the Trust to enable the refurbishment and conservation of the Fountain. An engrave plaque was attached to the stonework in acknowledgement.

A generous offer from an anonymous collector, of a long-term loan of original bound editions of Marnock’s Floricultural Magazine, stimulated a celebration. Led by the Gardens’ Education Officer, a series of events was held in 2023 both in the Gardens and across the entire country to celebrate Marnock’s achievements.
In March 2024 a blue plaque commemorating Marnock was erected by the Trust at the Gatehouse entrance to the Gardens

A limited edition high quality hardback was launched in October 2024. Written by R. Alison Hunter, our volunteer historian, it covers 190 years of the Gardens history and is fully illustrated. All copies have been sold and the proceeds raised £1200 for the SBG Trust.

A pre-fabricated building was installed in the yard next to the Dorothy Fox Education Centre and officially opened by the Lord Mayor Safiya Saeed in May 2025. This facility provided a warm and welcoming place for our wonderful volunteers to appreciate after all their hard work in the Gardens.

Originally created in 2005 to encourage families with young children to explore the Gardens, after years of weathering some of the clues had deteriorated and the trail was incomplete. in 2025 new clues were installed and it is now possible to follow all the way round.

A new educational trail explaining the development of plants throughout Earth’s history was installed in September 2025. A series of seven information board take the visitor on a journey through time.
