THE FLORILEGIUM SOCIETY > Press Release

A new and prestigious Society is to be launched in Sheffield in April 2002. The Florilegium Society at Sheffield Botanical Gardens has been formed to create a comprehensive collection of drawings and paintings for the Botanical Garden's archives.

This exciting venture is supported by the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society, which was formed in London in 1995. Members of this Society include many eminent artists and RHS medallists. Accolades have already been received worldwide for the archive work they have undertaken.

The Florilegium Society at Sheffield Botanical Gardens will be following the resurgence of interest in Botanical Illustration worldwide, and it is envisaged that many talented local botanical artists will join.

The Florilegium may be seen as a means of recording for posterity the collection of plants within the Garden. It is an undertaking of major historical and scientific importance and a wonderful way to enhance the work of the Garden.
