Fossilised Tree

The fossilised stump and roots of a Giant Club Moss or Lycopod are about 300 million years old (from the Coal Measures of the Carboniferous Period). It was found when excavating the foundations for Sheffield Midland Station and was formerly located in High Hazels Park. As a representative of a primitive plant, it is now appropriately situated in the Evolution Garden (Area P).
