Make a Donation or Legacy

Donations and legacies to the Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust (SBGT) are of enormous importance enabling the Trust to keep the gardens in the finest state and to support new initiatives – such as the new Dorothy Fox Education Centre. This project was made possible through many supporters but legacies from Mrs Fox and from FOBS members Barbara Holland and Mildred Rushby ensured that the project went ahead quickly.

We use legacies and donations and money raised from fundraising to ensure that the Gardens are kept in the finest state and to support new initiatives.

If you would like to make a donation to the SBGT, please send your cheque (with your name and address) to: The Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust, c/o Stephen Allen, Allen, West and Foster, Chartered Accountants, 2 Broomgrove Road, Sheffield, S10 2LR. As a charity, the Trust can take advantage of Gift Aid – thus increasing the value of any donation by 25% at no extra cost to the donor.

There is an annual programme of planting new trees in the Gardens. These may be sponsored at a cost of £200. Currently 3 trees are available for sponsorship. These are all planted.

Cercis siliquastrum, (Judas tree) planted in the Mediterranean garden.
Chamaerops humilis, (Dwarf fan palm) planted in the Mediterranean garden.
Acer buergerianum (Trident maple) in the Asian garden

Plaques are no longer allowed but the tree label will include 8 characters chosen by the donor such as MOUSEM&M for Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The tree name and donor code will be recorded on the Botanical Gardens plant database.

For more information  please telephone 0114 2500500.

As the Trust is a charity, any legacy left to it is free of inheritance tax. Legacies, of any size, are tremendously valuable and very gratefully received.

During 2016, the Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with a new charity number 1162566.  The original Registered Charity (1057845) is now linked to the new CIO – but it is much better for supporters to now quote the new charity number (1162566) when preparing any legal documents such as wills.

To help supporters who may be thinking of this form of planned giving, the Trust has prepared a brochure which provides more information and suggested wordings for you to discuss with your solicitor. The brochure does give the charity number as the old one. It is now 1162566.
